(lahir di Urbino, Italia, 16 Februari 1979; umur 32 tahun) adalah seorang pembalap di kejuaraan grandprix motor dunia  dengan titel juara dunia di empat kelas yang berbeda yang diraihnya dalam waktu tujuh tahun berkarier.Ia adalah salah seorang pembalap tersukses sepanjang masa, dengan 9 gelar Juara Dunia. Menurut majalah olah raga terbitan Amerika, Sports Ilustrated, Rossi adalah salah satu olahragawan bergaji terbesar di duunia, ia diperkirakan digaji $34 juta pada 2007. Putra dari mantan pembalap GP 250 cc Graziano Rossi danStefania Palma ini memegang banyak rekor dan prestasi yang diraihnya melampaui banyak seniornya. Total pembalap eksentrik ini membukukan 9 gelar juara dunia, sekali di kelas 125cc, sekali di kelas 250cc, dan tujuh kali di kelas puncak, 500cc dan MotoGP.

 

Karier di ajang MotoGP nya dimulai dari kelas paling bawah yaitu kelas seperdelapan liter atau 125cc pada tahun 1996, ditahun pertamanya ia mampu meraih podium 1 pada seri Brno (Rep. Checo) yang juga merupakan kemenangan satu-satunya diawal kariernya dikelas 125cc, kemudian pada tahun 1997 ia berhasil memenangi 11 dari 15 seri (termasuk kemenagan di sirkuit Sentul – Indonesia) hingga mengantarkannya menjadi juara 1 kelas 125cc. Tahun 1998 ia naik kelas ke 250cc dan finish akhir di posisi 2 dengan memenagi 5 seri, kemudian tahun 1999 ia berhasil mewujudkan targetnya untuk menjadi juara dunia kelas 250cc dengan memenangi 10 dari 16 seri.

 

Tahun 2000 ia naik kelas lagi ke kelas 500cc 2 tak dan ditahun pertama ini ia menempati peringkat 2 klasmen akhir kemudian tahun ke duanya kembali menorehkan keberhsasilan menjadi juara dunia kelas 500cc yang merupakan tahun terakhir menggunakan mesin 500cc 2 tak.

 

Tahun 2002 disaat pertama kali kejuaraan MotoGP menggunakan mesin 4tak ia lansung menjadi juara dunia dengan motor pabrikan asal Jepang (Repsol Honda) yang ia bela sejak tahun 2000 dan berlanjut hingga tahun 2003.

 

PINDAH KE YAMAHA

Pada akhir musim 2003 menjelang musim 2004 Valentino Rossi membuat keputusan yang mengejutkan. Ia memutuskan hijrah dari tim yang dibelanya waktu itu yaitu tim pabrikan Honda, Repsol Honda HRC yang telah mengantarkan dirinya meraih juara dunia 2002 dan 2003.

 

Mengenai kepindahannya ini, banyak yang tak mengira dan pesimis ia akan mampu mempertahankan gelar juaranya. Salah satu pernyataan pesimis datang dari Max Biaggi, musuh bebuyutannya mengatakan, “Aku tak menyangka ia pindah ke Yamaha, tapi bagaimanapun juga akan sulit mengalahkan Honda. Bahkan Rossi sendiri kurang optimis ia mampu mempertahankan juara dunianya. “Kami membutuhkan waktu untuk tampil kompetitif, untuk menang pada musim pertama bersama Yamaha jelas sangat sulit”. Tapi ia mementahkan semua pandangan pesimis tersebut. Bahkan pada seri pertama musim 2004 di GP Welkom, Afrika Selatan ia mengalahkan Max Biaggi yang mengendari motor Honda, meskipun dengan perlawanan yang sangat ketat, dengan motor Yamaha, yang terakhir naik podium tahun 1992. Bahkan pada tahun 2004 dan 2005, 2008 dan 2009 Rossi menjadi juara dunia bersama Yamaha dan menjadi pembalap Yamaha pertama yang paling banyak juara dalam satu musim (Rossi juara 9 kali pada musim 2009).

 

Pada Tahun 2010 Ia tak mampu mempertahankan Mahkota Juaranya karena mengalami kecelakaan serius saat sesi latihan Mugello (Italia) yang mana itu adalah latihan menjelang seri kandang baginya yang telah ia menangkan sebanyak 9 kali  sejak saat kelas 125cc tahun 1997, kelas 250cc tahun 1999 dan saat kelas Para Raja 2002-2008 (7kali beruntun) hingga ia dijuluki Raja Mugello.

Insiden tersebut memaksa ia absen sebanyak 4 seri dan hanya berhasil finish ke 3 di klasmen akhir dibawah Juara Dunia 2010 Jorge Lorenzo dan Daniel Pedrosa.

PINDAH KE DUCATI

Pada saat race di Brno (Rep. Chesca) ia mengumumkan untuk pindah ke Ducati yang notabene adalah Pabrikan Motor asli Italya. Banyak yang menyangka ia akan sukses dengan mudah bersama Ducati, namun semua itu tak semudah yang diperkirakan, hal ini dikarenakan tidak samanya gaya membalap Rossi dengan Ducati dan masih banyaknya persoalan Ducati yang belum mampu ia dan kru nya selesaikan hingga ia baru mampu meraih podium 3 saat seri Le Mans – Prancis 15 Mei 2011.

Semoga kedepannya ia mampu meraih hasil yang lebih baik dengan menggunakan Ducati GP11.1 yang merupakan penggabungan sasis GP11 dengan GP12 dan hingga mampu menyuguhkan kembali pertarungan seru yang selalu dinantikan para penggemarnya diseluruh Dunia…

(Born in Urbino, Italy, February 16, 1979, age 32 years) is a motorcycle racer in the world championship Grandprix with world championship titles in four different classes which he achieved in seven years berkarier.Ia is one of the most successful rider of all time, with 9 World Champion title. According to the magazine published by the American sports, Sports Ilustrated, Rossi is one of the greatest sportsmen in duunia paid, he paid an estimated $ 34 million in 2007. The son of a former 250 cc Grand Prix racer Graziano Rossi danStefania Palma holds many records and achievements that go beyond many of his senior achieved. This eccentric driver posted a total of nine world titles, once in the 125cc class, once in the 250cc class, and seven times in the top class, 500cc and MotoGP.
 
His career in the MotoGP class at the beginning of the eighth-liter or 125cc class in 1996, his first in the year he was able to grab a podium at Brno series (Rep. Chesca) he announced to move to Ducati Motor Manufacturing which is actually a native Italya. Many thought he would succeed easily with Ducati, but it did not as easy as expected, this is due not to race with him Rossi style with Ducati and Ducati are still many issues that have not been able to finish it and its crew until he was just able to reach the podium three time Le Mans Series - France May 15, 2011.
